I have used many scrubs to help me exfoliate and decided to do my own homemade scrubs. Lately, I’ve been making my own face & lip scrubs. I found some great recipes from Pinterest and wanted to share.
Why is it important to exfoliate and scrubs?
New skin cells are created in the skin’s inner layer (dermis). As they form, the old, dead skin cells are pushed to the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). These dead cells gradually flake off. But some of them hang on for too long, making your complexion look dull & rough and clogs your pores causing acne & other blemishes. Exfoliating the skin removes these dead cells. It helps reduce acne and blackheads and keep the skin smooth, clean and radiant.
Face Scrub Recipe
2 Ingredient Sugar Face Scrub:
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp sugar
How you do it:
Combine coconut oil and sugar in a small bowl, and stir to combine. Rub sugar face scrub into clean facial or neck skin, using gentle circular motions, for 60 seconds. Rinse dry with warm water.
This is an easy recipe to whip up when you don’t have a lot of time. You can increase the ratios to make more of the mix, and store for up to 3 months. If you live in a hotter climate, you may want to store this mixture in the fridge, as coconut oil has a relatively low melting point.
Lip Scrub Recipe

Oatmeal Honey Scrub Recipe:
Two parts oatmeal (ground up finely in a blender or food processor)
One part honey
One part sweet almond oil (or coconut or olive oil – which ever you prefer)
Mix everything together until it’s a thick sticky mixture. Feel free to add a little extra oil or even a few drops of water if it’s too sticky or clumpy. Smooth onto face and rub into skin for a couple of minutes and then rinse off.
