BeBoua’s Review:

I was excited to try products from Sulwhasoo since I heard some good stuff about it. They are considered a high-end skin care line. I used this foam cleanser along with the oil cleanser and other Sulwhasoo products. This cleanser comes with a plastic pump bottle, which I find really helpful keeping things nice and clean. The cleanser is clear and almost gel like.

It’s not as foamy as other “foam” cleansers but 1 pump gives enough to wash my face. There is a fragrance smell that’s not too overwhelming but can affect some people with sensitive skin. After wash, my skin was soft and clean since this is the second cleanse. After wash I apply the rest of Sulwhasoo products like, lotions, creams, etc… When I first started using Sulwhasoo line, my face was soft, smooth, and glowing!

After using it about 6 weeks day and night, I noticed my face was drying and flaky. I wasn’t sure which products from Sulwhasoo that was making my face dry so I decided to only use it once a day instead of 2 times a day. It made my face less dry. However, I noticed my nose my getting clogged and the product did not help with my skin complexion.

Just like the oil cleansers, I did a pH strip test. The pH level was about 6 -7 which means it’s high in alkaline. Usually for healthy skin pH level should be about level 5.5 for neutral. Since the skin is more acidic, having products toward acidity helps the skin. To be on the safe side, having cleaners 5.5 level and blow should keep the skin pH balance.

Quick explanation of pH test - pH stands for "potential hydrogen" and is used to describe the acid-alkaline ratio of a substance, which ranges from 0 (the most acidic) to 14 (the most alkaline).

Pros:

Pump bottle
Gentle
Light fragrance smell

Cons:

Expensive
Too harsh
Fragrance smell
Not foamy
High in pH

Bottom Line:

This product is more of a high-end skincare line and it might be on the higher price range for a cleanser. There’s a fragrance smell that can irritate sensitive skin. This cleanser dried out my skin and did not help whitening as it claimed.  It also has high pH which makes my skin dry and flaky.

Per Patricia Wexler, M.D., a New York City dermatologist. "To work its best, the acid mantle should be slightly acidic, at a 5.5 pH balance. When it's too alkaline, skin becomes dry and sensitive; you may even get eczema. You may also experience inflammation, which inhibits the skin's ability to ward off matrix metalloproteinases [MMPs], the enzymes that destroy collagen and cause wrinkles and sagging."
